Caroline and Warren Hopkins wanted a pleasant Mediterranean cruise. Instead, they got a terrifying adventure. After their Canary Islands experience, they decided to tell their story publicly. Caroline gave writer Jon Ziomek her personal diary, and the project began.
This is the memorial to all victims of the March 27, 1977, air disaster on Tenerife. The sculpture, byDutch artist Rudi van de Wint, centers on a stairway reaching to the sky. It sits on a hill with a view of Los Rodeos Airport, where the accident happened.
